Chitosan Oligosaccharide

chitosan oligosaccharide (COS) is an oligomer of b-(14)-linked d-glucosamine, which is the major degradation product of chitin and chitosan after deacetylation and hydrolysis.chitosan oligosaccharide It is also found in the exoskeletons of arthropods, including crustaceans and insects, and cell walls of fungi. It is water soluble, non-cytotoxic and easily absorbed through the intestinal epithelium. It exhibits a variety of biological properties such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activity and promotes tissue regeneration, drug/DNA delivery, and calcium absorption enhancement.

COS is a natural Biofertilizer, Biopesticide, and Biostimulant (Plant Immune Elicitor).chitosan oligosaccharide It induces broad-spectrum antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral activity against pathogens and pests. It enhances plant growth and productivity for significant increases in crop yield. It also stimulates the growth and activity of useful microbes like chitosanases, l-3-glucanases and rhizobacteria.

As a natural organic material, COS is a sustainable alternative to synthetic chemicals such as sodium benzoate and other chemical preservatives. It is widely accepted and has been incorporated into food and medical products as a safe, non-toxic alternative. It has been found to be particularly effective for preserving fruits and vegetables and improving the texture of meats.

Studies have demonstrated that chitosan oligosaccharide can promote vitamin C synthesis in fruits and improve the quality of cherries during refrigerated storage. COS also enhances anthocyanin and total phenols content in apples, grapes and cranberries. It is a highly efficient mellowing agent that decreases the bitterness of apples. It also enhances the aroma of fresh strawberries.

The bioactive molecule is generated during the fermentation process of bacteria that converts glucosamine to chitosan in a mild acidic medium. It is then subjected to rigorous purification processes to ensure the high-purity required for biomedical and agricultural applications.

In the case of plant-pathogen interactions, chitosan oligosaccharide functions as a natural mimic of MAMPs (microbe-associated molecular patterns) recognized by plants and triggered to trigger innate immunity.COS has been found to be an effective MAMP that elicits innate immunity in tobacco, camellia, soybean, oilseed rape and tomato. It was observed that less acetylated chitosan and its hydrolysate induced better protection against P. parasitica through systemic induction of resistance, but acetylation progressively impaired its antipathogenic activity.

MarkNature offers high-active chitosan oligosaccharide powder specially formulated to elevate plant health and growth. It boosts seed germination and encourages vigorous shoot growth, while strengthening the plant structure to resist environmental stressors. It also promotes nutrient uptake and enriches soil with essential trace minerals. The powder is easy to use and provides a variety of benefits to your crops, including stronger root structures, enhanced plant resilience, and healthier, more vibrant foliage. It is ideal for any cultivation method, from seedlings to mature plants. For even greater protection, you can also add it to your existing crop sprays and foliar applications.
